Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award

Purpose

The Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award recognizes outstanding outreach by a Chapter or Section of The Ninety-Nines that expands aviation opportunities and fosters inclusion of marginalized or underserved groups within the community served by the Chapter or Section.

Eligibility

The award may be presented to a Chapter or Section of The Ninety-Nines in good standing for the most meritorious outreach activity, event, project, or series of activities that fosters inclusion of a marginalized or underserved group relative to the applicant Chapter or Section.

The outreach activity may have occurred at any time in the past or present and may consist of a single activity or a series of related activities.

One award may be presented each year.

The award need not be presented in any year in which no qualified applicant is selected.

Non-winning nominations from previous years may be resubmitted. Resubmission is encouraged.

Award

The recipient shall receive their name on a perpetual plaque displayed at 99s Headquarters and a monetary award, currently set at $500.

The monetary award shall be paid from the Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award Fund held by The Ninety-Nines, Inc.

It is the intent of the International Board of Directors that the principal of the Fund be preserved and that the monetary award be paid from earnings of the Fund. The amount of the monetary award may be adjusted by the International Board of Directors as the Fund balance and available earnings permit.

If no award is presented in a particular year, no monetary award shall be disbursed and the funds shall remain in the Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award Fund.

Administration

The Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award shall be promoted and administered by The Ninety-Nines International through the International Awards Committee.

The International Awards Committee shall solicit and receive nominations, verify eligibility, evaluate and rank eligible nominations, and recommend a recipient to the International Board of Directors in accordance with the procedures and deadlines applicable to the other International Awards.

The International Board of Directors shall approve the recipient.

Following approval of the recipient, the Awards Committee Chair shall notify Headquarters and the International Treasurer shall arrange for disbursement of the monetary award to the recipient Chapter or Section.

The Washington, D.C. Chapter shall have no continuing administrative or selection role with respect to the award.

Nominations

Nominations may be submitted by any individual or group within The Ninety-Nines in accordance with the International Awards nomination procedures.

Nominations shall contain the information and supporting materials required under the International Awards Standard Operating Procedures and shall be submitted to the International Awards Committee by the established deadline.

The nomination deadline for the Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award shall be January 31.

Selection

The International Awards Committee shall evaluate eligible nominations using the same ranking and recommendation process applicable to the Award of Achievement, Award of Merit, and George Palmer Putnam Award.

The Committee shall recommend the highest-ranked qualified nominee to the International Board of Directors for approval.

If the Committee determines that no nomination sufficiently meets the purpose and eligibility requirements of the award, it may recommend that no award be presented that year.

Presentation

The Beverley D. Sharp Aviation Outreach Award shall be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet with the other International Awards.

Subject to approval by the International Board of Directors, the first award cycle shall begin in 2026, with nominations due January 31, 2027, and the first award presented at the 2027 Annual Awards Banquet.
